I haven't used it at all this year, is it effective? The way I've seen it explained is that (ps3), if you have control of a guy covering a hb for example.. if you hold down x at or before the snap the guy covering the hb will instantly tackle him, but I've been in practice mode with it for a few minutes now and I can't tell any difference at all in the way the guy manned up with the hb covers him whether I have x pushed or not...and If a guy is manned up an another guy doesn't he automatically cover that guy anyway? yes he does, so what does this button even do?

just allows you to play blanket "user" coverage if you are man'd up on a guy.

Basically the CPU tracks the the guy for you and if there is a ball carrier it takes the Pythag Theor to the ball carrier.

LOCKS ON essentially.

The transition is smoother from assist to manual control, then it is, if you hit nothing.

I still don't fully understand defensive assist. What you're describing is pretty much what happens anyway when you have a guy manned up with somebody. So how is defensive assist any different or better?.......ans what is Pythag Theor?........ and what's up the the picture of the dog? it's just a normal picture of a dog right? I'm so confused.

Pythagorean Theorem is the shortest distance between two points possible. -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythagorean_theorem

So for example say you are usering a guy thats in a yellow zone- often times oyu might run out of position but if you hold DEF assist the CPU will keep you in the yellow zone area so you wont go out of position.

If you select a guy that is man'd up against a WR/TE/HB it is often times difficult to follow there moves and make the cuts they make - if you hold DEF assist the CPU will follow them step for step.

It makes playing defense easier.

The dog is just a picture i selected for my avatar - itst just a cute puppy

I think he's saying if you don't hold X, the players still follow them step for step. But im telling him, when you hold X and decide to then user the player when the ball is in the air, the transition is a lot smoother then not holding any buttons at all, at least for me it is.

Ok at least the dog issue is cleared up I appreciate that.. do you guys use defensive assist at lot? That's my next question, and in what situations is it best to use it.. actually that's a good mail bag question if you haven't covered it already this year, i don't remember it being covered but not sure.

No i don't use it. The only time i would use it is on RB routes. But its no need because Rb's don't run more then 3 or 4 routes

Circle
Angle
689
or a Flat route.

All In's and Outs, don't worry about them, the RB cut takes a while you should be able to recover by them. Also if the RB doesnt go out, look out for the delay route. Never should you guard a WR or TE, the cpu will always do better then you.

Always remember

5 yard gain > 50 yard gain. Play back.

You don't have to press it.

Defensive Assist just makes the player you are using to do his assignment.. If his assignment is blitzing, and you run backwards at the snap.. press X and he blitzes.. If you put him on man coverage but you get out of position, press X and the CPU will cover the guy for you.

It's useful, but it doesn't make tighter coverage. It's the same coverage if you weren't usering the player.

You can easily test this by playing a game & put a guy on a blitz, then drop back into a yellow zone.. Press X, and your defender blitzes.
