How do you get "points" underneath your "posts"

I'm sure this has been asked many times so I apoligize.

I used the search bar and I came up with nothing.

I'm not really sure.. I know that reputation has to do with the + or - button on the right of every post.. I thought that the points button also had to do with the + or - buttons, but I guess not..

i'm not sure either either. my reputation points went up and then down so i have no idea. lol!
