initial thought on the strategy pad: feels gross. however, it is probably just because nobody is used to it yet. played my first demo game, didnt like the stratpad, but afterwards i got to thinking about much more difficult it is to set up a quick user defense, and how ultimately this will be something that will separate the men from the boys in the madden world. whoever can set their defenses up quick and adjust to the stratpad will be tough to beat, i can guarantee you that!
demo is good though. so glad you can play a full game and not just a 2 min quarter game.
not liking the headset thing every play, though im sure you can get rid of that from your screen in the real version, or probably the demo version too. im just too lazy to do it now and giddy to just play! Really? I called a play action... no way! Thanks headset guy!
i saw several madden 08 spec-catch animations and i started salivating... loved that.
I had a huge run with Shone Green from my own 5 yard line, musta broke 4 or 5 arm tackles, and the more tackles I broke, the more Gus got excited! Finally got past that safety and the camera zoomed in really tight to the field...the crowd got wilder and wilder as the run went on! It was really awesome and had the feeling of excitement that Madden just hasn't had before

I know everyone hates the strategy pad, but Im not completely sold on the new kicking meter... In online games (in madden 10) the kick meter has that weird lag that you have to take into account, I think it is going to make kicking a real pain in the butt.....
heres my thoughts on the demo. Nano is gonna be preety hard this year. or at least till people get used to the dpads. game play is preety smooth. I now dont know who ima run with with midnight to try to win a free madden im thinking dallas. i really wish they didnt switch the dpad crap. but i still cant wait for it to come out.
After a week with the game, everyone will have all the d-pad stuff memorized and it will be automatic. It still absolutely sucks, dont get me wrong... I don't like it one bit.
I'm just happy that the gameplay feels solid. I didnt really notice any major issues or bugs, although I did have ONE play where Santonio Holmes didnt move when I snapped the ball, then about 2 seconds later he started his route. The game planning thing did call ALOT of corner routes for me though, on almost every kind of situation... gonna have to fiddle around with that some more

I'm not sure I like the new kicking concept. I understand Field Goals were REALLY easy last year, and missed field goals are much more a part of real football than they are a part of madden, but I prefer field goals being a sure thing. My reasoning is, when it's 4th and 4 on the 20 yard line, half of the people are going to go for it and half will take the sure 3. Now, with Field Goal difficulty increasing, I think it's only going to encourage people to go for it more on 4th downs. And while before, if you got into a laggy game, the only thing it would hurt on your FG's are distance, I see myself just not even attempting Fg's in games where the lag is inconsistent.
It seems like they brought back the deep ball. In last years madden, it seemed like as long as the DB was within 5 speed points of the WR, you could play one on one coverage, and the DB would be step for step with the WR. If neither player went for a user catch, then 9 times out of 10, the Db would knock the ball down. I noticed last night in playing the demo that Holmes, Edwards and Garcon we''re getting a lot of seperation deep, and even able to complete 9 routes without going for the user catch. ( When I first play a game, I never user catch, because I like to see what routes are more reliable, and then I start looking for which routes require a user catch)
I can't decide if I kind of like the strategy pad or really hate it. I kind of like it because while a lot of us (with the help maddenbible) learned how to build a scheme, and create different defensive plays out of the same look. And it seems like strategy pad might now limit you to 2-3 pre-snap adjustments at best. On the other hand, it seemed like too many average players were finding one blitz that worked a lot, and running the same defense every down regardless of down/distance, situation, or personell. If they aren't allowed to apply all of the necessary changes to the game, it might force them to learn better defense.

Yes i like the pad as well, because it gets rid of some of the cheap nanos people use. I also noticed that its almost impossible to get a pass off if they blitz and you do PA and want to throw the ball mid or deep and love the new catch animations.
Kinda hard gettin use to left trigger rocket catching after using right trigger all madden 10. Dpad just somethin you have to learn and should go smooth after a bit. Can't wait to use a real playbook Jets and Colts i'm not feelin that much.

do u think thats the whole Indy playbook it seems SOOOOO small... it has one I-form, a couple SB forms and a few shotgun forms... both the Jets and Indy PB's seem incomplete to me, but I do think the Jets is a very good running book with that Tackle over and all of those strong I forms

braylon edwards on the demo was a beast....i just put him on a streak everytime and i got the jetpacking animation more times than not...even against double teams...i think this madden will favor people who use a big receiver with a high spec rating.. since ima use detroit heavily, i caint wait to try out calvin johnson...

atl ftw no matter what u want...u want fast, we got some pretty good WR speed (white, norwood, dougles) u want height (jenkins, finneran, and we got a rookie thats like 6 ft 5).....its a rap...lol
After several hours with the demo, I have to be honest.... if the defensive coverage in NCAA wasn't so broken, and they patched some of the other "issues" with the gameplay, I don't know if I would be buying a copy of madden right away, if at all I just turned the demo OFF halfway through a game out of frustration... none of it having to do with the actual on field gameplay :S
Even after memorizing the "strat pad" choices, I still find it frustrating and clunky to use... I don't know if its gonna be a deal breaker for me, but for a lot of people I'm sure it will be. Adjusting to what you see after the huddle is a huge part of the game, and that aspect of the game feels crippled. Hell, I like to run a cover2 or cover3 base defense on a lot of situations and adjust accordingly... that seems like its going to be VERY hard to do now, if not impossible... perhaps I'm over reacting?
I really like the feel of NCAA and a lot of the features. The game planning of NCAA (the conservative/balanced/aggressive choices) gives you a few different ways to run your offense or defense, The no huddle is awesome, (I can use the entire playbook) and the on field menus are just so much cleaner and logical.... I mean I can't even reset my play in madden if I pick the wrong audible for some reason. WTF is that? Also, when buddies are over I guess I'll have to have a house rule that everyone has to look away from the tv while formation audibles are called
Its a bit early to write a game off completely, so I will stick with it and make a decision on release day. I should, however, be EXCITED to throw on a demo game and check out all the new stuff, not turning it off with disgust I know a lot of people feel the same way as me judging from the general reaction of the madden community.
