I am in the market to get a capture card... a device that hooks up from your Television to your Computer so you can record the TV using your computer. I know very little about them and am trying to learn more and possibly get one.
Any information would be great. Do you have one and like it/dislike it? Why or why not? Let me know! Thanks people.

I have a HD PVR, but I can't use it because my computer isn't powerful enough to playback/record in HD.

hrm, how powerful of a computer do you need to have? I'd hate to blow $200 or so on this for it to not work with my laptop

My PC isn't that powerful.. It has an $80 graphics card and 4gigs of ram added.. everything else is stock from 2007..
I would definitely recommend a Hauppaugge HD PVR.. I love it.. I'm sure most PCs can play it back..
What are your specs anyway userpick? I think it could be something else..
How old is your PC? How much RAM do you have? What processor?

I actually looked at the specs for the HD PVR and a couple of other multimedia hardware and software items before buying my current laptop, and made sure they slightly exceeded the requirements. Nothing is worse than having a great peice of hardware or software, and not having computer powerful enough to handle them.
(Just answered your PM with the same info below Userpick; sorry for the late response.)
Here are a couple of Youtube videos that helped me setup/get situated with the HD PVR:

these are screen caps I took of my control panel:
I think based off of what Userpick posted as specs, I would be ok. Thoughts from the computer experts out there?

I fixed about 90% of my problem. I had my PVR connected to a USB hub which was connected to my PC(duuh). I had to improvise to get my PC close enough to connect directly. The quality is great and it doesn't skip but now it plays in slow motion now.
