Rocket Catching????

Any tips on rocket catching, bought the game about a month ago and still learning. I get that you have to throw it then take control of the receiver, spin him around and catch it but i keep getting this animation where my WR just runs in a semi-circle. Oh and I play on Ps3.

What I do is use the Dpad at a down right angle to throw the ball.. Then click on the reciever and move the right joystick in a 7ish oclock angle (for a right side of field pass about 15 yards downfield) while NEVER touching the left joystick after the ball is in the air.

do you have to hit triangle. (or y i guess for 360) to go up and make the catch or does it do it automatically?
