Intro: Ok now i basically chopped this idea all the way from Quarters package. I use to to run a Quarters base defense with the Linebackers package with fast LB's as DE's and my best DE at DT. Then i went from Dime but i liked the idea of placing another LB on the field as opposed to a CB and i like the Nickel plays and alignment more than Dime and it can create so much stuff. I like speed on my defense because i love to blitz. What most people don't seem to realize that speed is negated in a defense with any zone that isn't a Purple or Blue zone. So if you like a speedy defense you want Cover 3 or 3 man under for your base defense, my base is defense is Cover 3 and it's the play i always select out of all my nickel formations(But i have a few man set ups that are similar). Goal line is the only formation i don't call cover 3 from.
Thought process: Now don't get me wrong i can't tell you how to think but in order to run this defense your first instinct has to be providing pressure. My pressure doesn't even come close to "Sending the house" as i send more than 4 people no more than 25% a game. The main objective is to make sure whoever has the ball in their hands, butt hits the ground before the past the LOS. As no defense is perfect, neither is this philosophy but it always lets me know to keep my foot on their throat. Pressure is majority illusion, confusion and penetration. I enjoy outside pressure because i want them to throw the ball over the middle, as you see your CB's are essentials the 2 people on the outside, you have 9 people over the middle or linked somehow to the middle of the field, you want the person to attack you there.
-Pressure
-Illusion, confusion and penetration
-Force the ball to the inside
Why so special?: Nickel Normal is essentially your 4-3 with a 90 speed linebacker instead of 78ish players. It also gives you the ability to roam the LOS and play safety with the hybrid of linebacker. I call this the Rover position. This player want to have the speed you covet at a LB position along with Linebacker type tools and attributes (Size and Strength, tackling rating, block shed rating) This also allows you to have the most speed on the field while maintaining balanced and structure in a formation, because if you come out in Quarter or any other big formation, shifting becomes less more effective because you can only move a total of 4 players with one click, (1 LB, 3 DL's), You get to back up your main players on the outside with one button, while still keeping a 7 man box and you have enough speed and coverage to never have to leave it. The 4-2-5 is probably the BEST defensive formation in the game. The 4 lineman make it better than Dollar along with the ability of having a free nickel CB to create a 4-3, 4-4 and 3-4.
To create 4-3 wall Spread D-line Shift LB's Right Place CB3 or FS beside the RE
To create 4-4 Spread D-Line Pinch LB's Place SS and CB3 in LB depth above their respected C gaps Center FS
To create 3-4 predator front To create 3-4 predator front Shift DL Right Move CB3/FS LB depth off a RT/LT hips. The LE will act as your OLB in a 3 point stance.

Just want to make sure, promise me this is your original work and idea. (I know you had the moment in the chatbox where you went indy, but the plays are yours and stuff)

Lacy works as a nice FS and move Bullet over to SS as well.

You don't need a fast defense to run a Nickel base. You need a great front 4, since mostly they will be the ones causing confusion with the dropping. A lot of times you may just rush 4, and the Vikings front 4 alone with no blitzing is capable. Lastly, the Vikings can stop the run the nickel. Cowboys defensive line isn't the greatest, but it's capable. You have to have Ware and/or Spencer on the line for it to be legit and i'd rather have them up off the line.

Sorry about the quality. I used iMovie. I haven't gotten a chance to get my pvr yet ( just had to buy 4 tires! and i got radio and some other things for my car, so hopefully i can get on soon. The plays are legit though, very effective. You'll get lot from this vid. a Man and Zone blitz and the nickel flex alignments itself. A lot of people told me they were confused of the nickel flex so hopefully this can help

I wouldn't even dare doing this without a good depth chart setup with Fast/good coverage linebackers and defensive ends with good awareness... but thats just me...
ant youput out some good stuff. i have the colts in a league. i need help with the setup on defense i use nyj defensive playbook. i also wanted to know if you have some good defenses out of the nickel formations.
