Flats are a trouble spot for sure. If you can tackle well though, you will negate big gains. I like to bring a lot of heat so the downfield wont be open and user the flat. This way I can make a big tackle behind the line and deter the quick throw often leading to a sack.
Flats are messy though for sure. Also make sure to SLIDE out manually, any player you put on a flat zone. You want him almost on the sideline, when the qb rolls out, he gets sucked in.
