| Only problem i have with my game, is I always get away from my gameplan. Example: A lot of times, I will be rolling out to exploit flats, and my opponent isnt very good at stopping it. I mix in hb slip screen so i get complete control of the qb to rollout, and things like wr screen out of trio. I do this consistently in the first half, only using 5-8 of the same plays over and over. Once i get the ball back in the second, i seem to start to completely abandon that scheme.
Also many times, I get away from my scheme too quickly. By this I mean, if what im doing fails once or twice, i completely abandon it.
Other than that, id say Ima keep tickin (;

| I cant throw long for toffee, thats my achilles heel.
I only ever play with the team i have enjoyed watching since ..well forever... the Cowboys and i always run, run and run some more.....but i am getting predictable to my mates...i really got to learn how to throw more than 5yrds square(flat)...i swapped to the NE offence playbook today ...(just to have a look) and automatically setup for screens and runs. (honestly i havent a scooby when it comes to passing long)
In saying that i can rocket catch but only ever on wr post corners.....on any other rc routes i am as useless as a chocolate fireguard.

oops sorry guys for the slang...its a U.K habbit kind of thing....Scooby translates to Scooby Doo which means 'clue' in slang here...will try not to do when posting...hence the edit on post

| I'd say my challenge is not becoming overly reliant on a particular scheme - for example, if the D is locking you up, you have to have an alternative scheme (or perhaps 2).
Knowing when to rotate schemes is a key skill in Madden. Good players resist longer than they should; Great players know when to pull the trigger and head in a different direction. For example, if you're stalling out with the Snugs/Strong Close scheme, rotating to a Flip Trips/SB Ace scheme, etc.
To build this into my philosophy, I often experiment with packages on my 1st drive to see what the D can adjust to, or not adjust to. When I forget to do this, I become too one-scheme minded.
I often find that you can resist for a while and stubbornly run a scheme that the D is locking up (i.e. forcing you into 3rd down after 3rd down), but this puts you in a position to have to pull out close games.
However, if you rotate schemes, you will likely find a sweet spot that gives your opponent a challenge.
On the defensive side, my challenge is knowing when to give up on pressure and instead rely on the right counter-setups. For example, instead of continuing to bring heat that is getting nicely blocked, show heat but instead have situational play-makering (i.e. manning up or purple zoning, etc.)

| I would say i struggle a bit on defense. I must admit though, since joining this site guys like Sgibs, Mili, User, and WFColonel have pretty much made me a bit better on defense. Of course im not the greatest, but just definitely give me great tips. But i think i have gotten better.
I think another aspect for me that i seem to be sketchy on is offense. I run the ATL playbook so i have favorite plays. But i guess the playcalling on when to call what plays so i keep my opponents guessing.

| I struggle with defense sometimes, I am alright at calling the plays and hot routing and what not but the thing i am terrible at is usering the mlb in my cover 2 buc defensive scheme, i am getting better but i still kind of suck at it. I find myself biting hard on play action fakes and the qb completes a pass over the middle to a TE or something in my zone which im supposed to be in but im too busy attacking a RB that isnt even running... sigh. THe other thing that gets me is when someone comes into my zone i chase him aggressively but then another guy comes into the zone and he is open cause im chasing the other guy. | |

| ^^^ U have to create concrete rules for yourself. In a cover 2 there are 3 weak areas at all times 1. the area beyond the corners and in front of the safeties 2. deep middle
as far as the deep middle that is an area that u as the mlb can control
But my advice would be to wait until u see the ball out to react on a throw (yes play coverage but dnt jump routes until ball is out)...this will get rid of the pumps beating u
Also react late on run plays. Set up your DL/LBs in a way that you (mlb) CAN be granted leeway on runs to both sides...remember the CBs will be your contain players on outside runs...Doing this will make sure u dnt bite on PA
As far as the chasing problem you just have to learn route combos that force u to chase the 1st option. Earlier in the yr I was tinkering with COV2 defense and using the MLB as my user guy. And my coverage rules were to read the TE, to RBs, to outside WRs....
So if the TE runs a seam or a post, cover that with your EYES looking at RB action. If the RBs go to the flats forget them, if they run curls than close in on them. If the RBs dont work into ur area locate the outside WRs and see if they will come into your zone, than react.
If any of the options dont happen move down the list. If the TE doesnt threaten your area look for RBs, if RBs dont threaten look for outside WRs, If none happen gain depth deep. And close in on deeper throws

| My goal defensively isn't to stop everything. It's to take away what my opponent wants to do. Offensive players that can stand on their heads consistently will always have success, but its up to the defensive player to make everything tough - and to make it even tougher as the game moves along allowing the defensive player to see more, progressively tweak for tendencies, and get a step ahead of his competition. | |
